Building an effective criminal justice system

A recent Labour Party consultation on building an effective criminal justice system found several key themes, including:

  • the need for early intervention;
  • reducing the use of short sentences;
  • bringing probation services back under public control;
  • tackling the systematic discrimination against BAME communities and women in our criminal justice system;
  • and for a greater use of community sentences.

The final paper will be published over the summer ahead of discussion at the Labour Party conference. Ahead of this, the Shadow Justice Secretary will be publishing a series of articles on how Labour would make significant changes to the justice system.
